Methodology

Tolldex answers one precise question: what you need to drive legally across Europe, what it costs at the official price, and where to buy it officially. This page describes how we guarantee that what we publish is accurate.

Where the prices come from

Every price published comes from the official portal of the state or public operator concerned — never from an aggregator, never from a reseller. Every price carries two statements in public: the date it was last verified, and the address of the source where it was read. If either is missing, we do not publish.

How they are verified

A monitoring engine reads the official portals of the nine vignette countries we cover every day. When the price it reads differs from the one we publish, the system corrects nothing: it raises an alert, and a human compares it against the source before accepting or rejecting the new value. Every accepted change is recorded in the price log, with the old amount, the new one and the source.

Conversions into euros

Prices set in Swiss francs, Czech crowns or forints are converted at the European Central Bank's daily reference rate, whose date accompanies the conversion. The official price remains the one in local currency.

Low-emission zones

Low-emission zone data comes from the TyreMap dataset, published under a CC BY 4.0 licence and credited in the footer. Links to obtain emissions stickers point to the official sites.

What we do not do

Tolldex sells no vignettes, no toll products, and is affiliated with no vignette reseller of any kind. Every purchase button on this site leads to the official portal of the country concerned. Routes are calculated on OpenStreetMap road data; borders come from Natural Earth and the cities suggested in the calculator from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0, credited in the footer).
